Methods of sedation dentistry are useful in pediatric patients to help keep them calm and still. Sedation is useful for patients with anxiety about seeing the dentist, but in our line of work is largely for kids that have a hard time sitting still for longer appointments.

Most kids are fine for quick checkups, for instance, but may have a tougher time for cleanings or fillings. In those cases, sedation helps the child feel more comfortable and allows us to work more efficiently.

Dr. Warr will help you decide if sedation is right for your child.

(Our staff will call you 2 days before a sedation appointment to review the process and any preparation needed.)

Types of dental sedation

  • Nitrous oxide
  • Oral sedation
  • General anesthesia

Nitrous oxide and oral sedation are administered in our office. Our staff undergoes monthly and yearly training to stay up to date on the latest techniques to make sure that your child stays safe. Two trained dental assistants monitor your child’s heartbeat, breathing, blood pressure, and temperature continuously. The medication administered to your child will relax them while we work.

A Board Certified, highly trained anesthesiologist administers General Anesthesia.

“My boys have been going to see Dr. Joye since she first opened her practice. She is an amazing dentist with a gift for calming the fears of children and easing the anxiety of parents. Her commitment to and love for each and every patient is evident in all she does – particularly in the caring and compassionate staff she hires! We recommend her to everyone we know and will continue to do so. My 17 year old says, “I may not enjoy having dental work done, but I know Dr. Joye loves me!” ~ Jeanne Oweis

About Pediatric Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are for patients with teeth that are too decayed to fill. Crowns completely cover the tooth and help to hold a tooth together so the tooth can be saved instead of extracted. Putting crowns on baby teeth are different in a lot of ways although the purpose is the same. Read more about kids crowns.

“We absolutely love the care that we receive at Warr Pediactrics! Everyone, the entire team is very warm and friendly. Dr. Joye is amazing and it’s felt throughout!! We feel so comfortable from the moment we arrive to the point that we leave. There is no doubt that they’re well prepared for us because the entire team shows each time that they’ve been expecting us! They’re also very thorough in explaining whatever is currently going on, areas of concern and what to expect. They use images and terms my kids can understand, they interact with my kids and I can hear them laugh and respond back. The atmosphere is cozy and I can’t forget how comfortable and very relaxing they make it for parents as well. My kids have received the best care for over ten years and they look forward each time to going for their visits.” ~Kishma Greene
